Pesented amendments for the New Working Committees to the Council for approval and  met with the new Apprenticeship Director Ken Olsen.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended FACTE (Florida Association of Career and Technical Educators, In Clearwater.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended a presentation on the German Apprenticeship System presented by Volusia County CTE Director Dan Cox.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Conducted an apprentice contest committee meeting, planning for the state contest in September.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Presented Bradford County School Board with the Bradford County Technical Center NCCER National Accreditation Sign for their school.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Conducted a NCCER refresher course to the Palm Beach school District with Sandy Cinque&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Conducted a NCCER refresher Orange County and Lake County staff.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Reviewed upcoming school year with the CTE Staff of Pinellas County and refresher for NCCER.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended the Florida Skills Board meeting in Bradenton. The State Skills contest is planning to move to Pensacola in 2012.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Banner Center for Construction Board meeting; main Topic was Apprenticeship and Pre Apprenticeship in Gainesville&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Department of Corrections Education Director in Tallahassee regarding our MOU and the future status of a DOC Grant with Pat McLaughlin. Met with the Chancellor of Education and the New Director of Apprenticeship to discuss the status of new apprentices and our apprentice programs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pat McLaughlin and Ed Prevatt of NCCER at the NCCER office in Gainesville discussed and reviewed our Sponsorship and set a date for Dennis Neal and Sandy Cinque to meet in Gainesville at the NCCER office to discuss upcoming year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bryan Light from BIA in Pensacola had a Manpower meeting to tour Pensacola with Visit Pensacola Committee. They have requested that we move the Manpower Forum, Regional Apprentice Contest for 10 Southern States back to Florida in 2012. Also met with the Skills Committee for the same purpose. To move the Florida State Skills State Contests to Pensacola in 2012.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;SEPTEMBER, 2010&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tampa Apprentice Class and instructor discussed new school year and discussed the State Contest set crews and clean up crews.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prepared for the State Apprentice Contest for State Convention, confirmed judges &amp;amp; materials and tests.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Met the CTE Staff of Nature Coast High School, one of the new schools to come under our sponsorship for Building Construction program through NCCER.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended and presented at the Never Forget 9/11 football game sponsor by us between Menendez and Nease. Over 1,500 were in attendance. Spoke with both teams and coaches. Mike Beville was in the Honorary Guard that presented the game ball to the officials.  Al Herndon presented the Masonry Salute Veterans Trophy to the winning team.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kurt Morauer, and the State Career and Technical Curriculum Committee in Jacksonville  reviewed the Masonry Curriculum and all construction trades curriculums for final approval by the Department of Education.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended the MAF State Convention, held the 2011 State Apprentice Contest and the Fastest Trowel Contest in Saint Petersburg. Met with the DOC staff that attended the Convention and conducted a judge workshop with them. Bryan Light from BIA held Contest review and gave the Apprentices their Contest written Test.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Attended the North West Central MAF meeting in Ocala to discuss forming an apprenticeship program for the Chapter.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Met with Traviss Vo Tech staff to discuss Marco Bay’s request for an apprenticeship program in Lakeland for Polk County. Meetings are being schedule for October and November.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Conducted the Menendez Advisory Board meeting to review the Green Ticket Booth that is almost completed. This project was done with our masonry pre apprentices. One day will be for Masonry. United Masonry and area suppliers will talk to students and parents about the Masonry Trade.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Marsan Carr is scheduling a meeting in Tallahassee to discuss the upcoming legislative session.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Derwin Bass of Suwannee Tech is referring two Refractor Masonry Companies in Columbia and Suwannee County to Join MAF&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Larry Penton of Locklin Tech has moved the NW Apprentice program to Pensacola and is using the Masonry Arts building as their school site, Locklin continues to support the program. This move was to accommodate the apprentices that are still in the program who live in Pensacola.  Locklin is committed to keeping the masonry program.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Marcobay has five masonry contractors who are interested in joining the MAF program in Lakeland. AMS will participate in the Lakeland program.  George Milliken, Mary Jane Mueller and Joyce Rivas will work to coordinate a meeting date in October.  A thank you letter was written to the Director of Traviss, Dr Clinton and John Smalls regarding the two students that helped with the state conveniton contest. The students came back and have created excitement about masonry with the other students.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;An informal survey was done with the NCCER Schools. Over fifty instructors are interested in participating in the OSHA 500 Class. It was well attended and provided a platform for a masonry question and answer session.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Discussed continuation of PTEC Tampa apprenticeship program with Dr. Peter Berry&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Participated in the Green Environment test top Henkels &amp;amp; McCoy Associates  Administered via NCCER testing individuals that have completed the Green Environment &amp;amp; Core Curriculums.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Masonry Education Foundation conducted masonry training for the Department of Corrections masonry instructors at their Annual Training Conference in Orlando.  Participating in the training were: Don Beers, Jerry Painter, John Lear and Al Herndon.  Training included 3 days of Masonry Education for instructors.  The MEF was asked to return to future DOC educational Conferences and all DOC masonry instructors have been invited to our semi annual MEF Train the Trainers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A two and half day ICTP training was held in Gainesville for DOE and SantaFe College instructors.  NCCER Master trainers were Dennis Neal and Al Herndon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;MEF conducted the largest Florida Skills Masonry contest in Florida’s history.  There were 23 contestants. JD Giddens from the Tampa program and Cody Prescott from our Suwannee Pre Apprentice program will represent Florida in USA Skills in Kansas City in June 2010.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;MEF is working with the ITEC School in Immokalee. A Registered&lt;br /&gt;PreApprenticeship Program is being developed with Lely and ITEC schools for Construction Technology.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A two and half day ICTP Training for the instructors from Panhandle schools was help in Chipley. Curtis Green and Tanya Taylor were the Panhandle Master Trainers. This was the 26th ICTP training since 2005.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Al Herndon was appointed to the Nassau County School District Construction Advisory Board. Nassau County will be starting a stand alone masonry program for West Nassau High School.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Director of the Sheriff Boys Ranch in Citrus County are working with Juvenile Justice to add masonry to their curriculum.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Volusia County School District under the MEF NCCER Sponsorship will begin using NCCER Curriculum at three of their schools in August 2010/  The three schools are: DeWitt Taylor, Deland HS and New Smyrna Beach HS.  Approximately 250 students will be trained in Construction Technology. MEF will also conduct an ICTP Training in Daytona Beach in September for their instructors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Conducted a 105 review for Dunnellon High School under the MEF NCCER sponsorship. They are approximately 150 students taking Construction Technology at this facility.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Florida Skills Board meeting approved 475 students to go to Kansas City and represent Florida in USA Skills. Florida will have the largest group of students in the United States competing in this year's Career and Technical Education events.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Osceola School District's three schools and 200 students are currently working under the MEF NCCER sponsorship for their Construction Technology program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;An ICTP Training was held in Immokalee in June 2010 at ITEC for instructors in the SouthWest Florida.  Dennis Neal and Al Herndon were the trainers. Collier county school District has requested a second training in October or November 2010.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dennis Neal and Al Herndon met to establish a OSHA 30 hour training at the University Of South Florida OSHA Training Institute for MEF NCCER Trained instructors.  This certification will enable them to teach the OSHA 10 course to their students. This training will be in October 2010.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OSHA Training Institute has requested the MEF train their instructors using the ICTP NCCER training. Under MEF/NCCER sponsorship a curriculum will be established.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dennis Neal, Jerry Smith and Al Herndon  conducted an ICTP Training for the Dade County School District which is the fourth largest school district in America.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Perkins Grant Division of the Department of Education will pay for all DOE Instructors Certifications. Since 2005, MEF, Dennis Neal and Al Herndon have trained 304 instructors with the NCCER ICTP and we have trained 41 instructors in the OSHA 30 Hour Course totaling 345 instructors trained in Florida by the masonry industry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Al Herndon and Pat McLaughlin attended the Commissioner of Education Recognition Award banquest in Tampa on June 17. The MEF was one of 80 Businesses recognized for contributions to improving the academic success of Florida Students. The MEF was recommended by the Saint Johns County School District, as recipients of the 2010 Business Partner of the Year Award for SJC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The 2010 USA Skills Conference was held in Kansas City. Florida had two students, JD Giddens from Tampa and Cody Prescott from Live Oak representing Florida in the largest Masonry Contest in Skills History (54 masonry students). Mr. Giddens finished 7th in the Nation out of 20 Post Secondary Students ( apprentices ) and Cody Prescott finished 16 in the Nation out of 34 Secondary students ( High School ).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Florida had a mason student compete in the National Team Build Contest, a team of a Mason, Carpenter, Electrician and a Plumber who builds a scaled down front of a house. This is a two day event and Suwannee Tech from Live Oak won the National Gold Medal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Georgia high school student that also competes in Florida at the Masonry Showcase finished 7th in the Nation as a Secondary student from Camden HS in Saint Mary’s Georgia.  In the National contest we had 7 students that the MEF assisted with trained.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the highlights of the competition was an industry sponsored lunch for the students on Wednesday June 23. Pat McLaughlin, Executive Director of MEF &amp;amp; MAF was the Keynote speaker. Pat's presentation was well received as he gave the students the reasons they should continue to pursue their careers in masonry. The presentation included various masonry buildings  built in Florida and across the United States. The weather was very unusual for Florida on Thursday it was in the low 20s all day and on Friday there were snow flurries on Friday afternoon with the temperatures staying in the low 30s all day. His instructor is Hank Marino and his is an employed by Doyle Masonry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Joshua Schultz from the Northwest Chapter, Pensacola won 3rd Place 2nd year. His instructors are Michael Daily and Tony Hamilton and he is an employee Masonry Arts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mario McCary from the Central Chapter finished 4th in the third year out of 9 contestants. The score separating 3rd and 4th place was one point. Mario was also was one point from the Architectural Award for the 3rd year project.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Neville Copeland 1st year and Lerve Meltide 2nd year apprentices from the Central Chapter both employed by Sewell Masonry had very good projects and their instructor Par Westman accompanied them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fernando Alvarado 3rd year apprentice from the Tampa Chapter employed by Red Brookshire Masonry competed strongly and were supported by Chris Sutherland, instructor and Tiffany Sutherland, program coordinator.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hank Marino, Par Westman, Chris Sutherland and Al Herndon were judges. There were 24 contestants from 3 Tennessee programs, 4 Florida programs and 1 Georgia program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Chattanooga will again host the competition next year. A stronger the economy = more contestants. The Reg Miller Award stay’s in Tennessee for one more year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All of the apprentices did an outstanding job representing Florida the MAF and their Chapters&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please note that Joshua Schultz did not attend the awards presentations. Travis Maton from Makita and John Day from Fastenal brought their staffs and all of the power tools that are used in the masonry trade for students to look at and use. There were six instructors from different parts of Florida in attendance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Robin Carey from Mid Florida Tech in Orlando and Robert Companion from Yulee High School in Yulee both scored 100 on all nine of their Certification tests. What makes this exceptional, Al Herndon and Dennis Neal have given a total of 2547 test to 283 instructors and Robin and Robert are the first to make 100 on all nine of their test. Immokalee Tech will be sponsor by the FMAEF and the school will use the NCCER Curriculum for the Construction Technology course taught at the school.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The FMAEF also held a pre apprenticeship meeting with Immokalee Tech, Lorenzo Walker Tech Center and Lely High School to start a register pre apprenticeship program with the Collier County School Board and the MAF Southwest Masonry apprenticeship program. Present at this meeting was Jeff Turley Apprenticeship Coordinator MAF SW, Mr. Oxender and Mr. Williams from Immokalee, Mr. Lambley , Lorenzo Walker and Mr. Foots from Lely High School., Pat McLaughlin , MAF and Al Herndon FMAEF. Each principal spoke on the sacrifices that had been made for this country. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard presented the colors at the Veterans’ Memorial Wall built by the masonry students at Menendez. The Nease ROTC presented the colors for the National Anthem played by the bands of both schools. Pat McLaughlin, Executive Director of MAF, spoke about the relevance of the masonry industry and our ongoing support of the St. Johns County Schools. The Superintendent of Schools and the Sheriff of St. Johns County honored the police and firemen who gave their lives on 9/11.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The highlight of the pre-game program was a presentation on the meaning of freedom by the mother of a slain veteran of the Iraq war. Her son had graduated from Nease High School.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A commemorative coin was struck for the game and presented to each player on both teams.
